Chromebooks for Student Use

Our 1:1 Chromebook program provides our students with the educational opportunities that will allow Sacred Heart teachers and students to build a more integrated educational experience while preparing for the future.

The Chromebook Program and Policy requires each 5th – 8th Grade student to purchase his/her own Chromebook.

There are a number of less expensive Chromebooks out there. Why buy this particular model and Chromebook?

The Technology Committee has done extensive research on various Chromebook brands and models. The Dell Chromebook 3100 is the most dependable educational commercial based model released.

No, for the same reasons that we don’t allow students to come to math class with whatever publisher’s Algebra book they feel like. We also require them to arrive in class with the same Chromebook. Requiring all student to purchase through the school will ensure that all students have the same software and hardware configurations to comply with Archdiocese of Galveston/Houston Acceptable User Policy as well as SHCS Technology Safety Guidelines (SHCS network infrastructure).

The Chromebook will come pre-configured so it will only accept the students accounts that exist on our domain name. For the safety of all our students and to minimize disruption on our school network, students will not be allowed to use any non-issued school accounts.

Yes. A loaner Chromebook will be available upon a refundable deposit of $100 for a maximum of 2 weeks. If the Chromebook is returned in the same condition it was checked out, a refund will be issued. If it is not returned as initially issued, a refund will not be awarded but will go towards the cost of replacing the school owed Chromebook. If repairs are not completed within the 2-week allotted time, another $100 deposit will be required.

Once the child leaves the school, their Chromebook will be deprovisioned and a “how to reset” instructions will be sent home.

Yes, the projected life cycle for this particular Chromebook model from the Manufacture is four years. This particular educational model is the most dependable model released by Dell.
