The Texas Education Savings Account (ESA) Program, now called Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA), is overseen by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts and will be implemented for the 2026-27 school year. This program provides eligible families with funds for tuition, tutoring, and other educational expenses. Applications are expected to open in early 2026, and details on eligibility and program rules can be found on the Comptroller's official ESA webpage
For families who are eligible to apply, we strongly encourage you to apply for the Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA). Children are eligible to participate if they are U.S. citizens or legal residents and are eligible to attend a Texas school district or open-enrollment charter school or pre-K program, including children of active-duty members of the U.S. armed forces. Any Texas parent may apply for their child: “Parent” is defined as a Texas resident who is a natural or adoptive parent, managing or possessory conservator, legal guardian, custodian or other person with legal authority to act on behalf of a child."

It is important to note that according to the recent published rules, prioritization and funding amounts for students with a disability require an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) issued from a school district, not a private evaluation. Now is the time to encourage families of students with disabilities to receive a Full Individual Evaluation (FIE) from their local ISD.
